Lithological Description: Sand and gravel, well sorted, brown. Reddish brown clayey sand and gravel, commonly passing upwards into reddish brown, pebbly silty sand.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Sharp, undulating, erosional contact, mainly on reddish brown, clayey, sandstone-rich diamicton of the Gretna Till Formation or on bedrock.
Definition of Upper Boundary: The present ground surface, generally up to 6 m above floodplain level.
Thickness: Up to 12 m thick.
Geographical Limits: The valley of the River Esk downstream of Mumbie Cottages, Canonbie, Dumfries-shire.
Parent Unit: Solway Esk Valley Formation (SESKV)
