Lithological Description: Andesitic and dacitic lapilli-tuff, and intercalated tuff, with some bedded volcaniclastic sandstone in the upper part of the formation, and some accretionary lapilli-tuff in the tuff sequence.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Taken at the sharp change from andesite and dacite sheets of the Birker Fell Andesite Formation to a dominantly pyroclastic sequence, along a conformable contact.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Defined by the base of silicic ignimbrites of the Whelter Knotts Formation.
Thickness: 0 - 340 m thick.
Geographical Limits: Patterdale Common, Martindale and Riggindale, south-east of Ullswater, Cumbria.
Parent Unit: Borrowdale Volcanic Group (BVG)
