Lithological Description: A medium-bedded, very fine- to mediium-grained, trough cross-bedded and part ripple cross-laminated, micaceous, buff to pale brown sandstone.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Sharp upward change in a conformable succession from predominately grey mudstone/siltstone to sandstone - base of first sandstone above the Arley Coal.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Sharp upward change in a conformable succession from sandstone to predominantly grey mudstone - top of last sandstone bed below the New Coal (South Lancashire).
Thickness: 0-18m
Geographical Limits: Between Royton [SD 9150 0750] and Lees [SD 9550 0450] near Oldham, Lancashire.
Parent Unit: Pennine Lower Coal Measures Formation (PLCM)
