Definition of Lower Boundary: Unconformity. Lowest occurrence of purple sandstone, locally conglomeratic, resting on rocks of the Highland Border Complex.
Definition of Upper Boundary: At the base of the lowest metre-thick red siltstone bed in the overlying Castle of Cowie Member.
Thickness: 93m
Geographical Limits: Stonehaven area.
