Lithological Description: Sandstone, fine-grained, silty, glauconitic, very dark grey. Bioturbated with moulds of mollusca.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Not exposed. Probably unconformable on granite, or crystalline basement. Basal unit usually a strongly weathered siltstone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Unconformable, overlain by the Buchan Ridge Gravel Member.
Thickness: About 12m. Not seen at one exposure.
Geographical Limits: The Buchan Ridge of Flett and Reed, 1921; Moss of Cruden. 1:10,000 sheets NK04SW, NK03NW. 1:50k geological sheet 87W (Ellon) and 87E (Peterhead).
