Definition of Lower Boundary: Taken at the lithological change channel-fill, upward-fining sandstones to the cyclical, upward-coarsening sequence of clastic strata with marine limestones in the underlying Upper Limestone Formation
Definition of Upper Boundary: Taken at the base of the Troon Volcanic Formation; defined by the lithological change from basaltic lavas to clastic strata of the underlying Monkcastle Sandstone Formation
Thickness: About 45 m thick.
Geographical Limits: Presently used within north Ayrshire
