Mid Hosie Limestone

Lithological Description: A pale to dark grey, argillaceous locally concretionary, crinoidal and shelly, bioclastic limestone, interpreted to be of marine origin.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Generally seen as a change from marine mudstone within the Lower Limestone Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Generally seen as a change to marine mudstone within the Lower Limestone Formation.
Thickness: 0.35m to 1.15m thick, or locally less, in the Airdrie, Falkirk and Glasgow districts. This limestone fuses with the Main Hosie Limestone at Petershill in the Bathgate Hills.
Geographical Limits: Distributed throughout most of the outcrop of the Carboniferous of the Midland Valley of Scotland, but locally difficult to recognize in Ayrshire and Lanarkshire where the Hosie limestones join together as the McDonald Limestone in the shelf setting.
