Lithological Description: Olive-grey, silty, calcareous mudstones with thin intervals of argillaceous limestone and oyster-rich mudstones (9 divisions: see principal reference).
Definition of Lower Boundary: A rapid increase in shell-detritus in calcareous mudstones that pass into the uppermost limestone of the Inferior Oolite.
Definition of Upper Boundary: A similar increase in shell-detritus that passes into the massive limestones of the Fuller's Earth Rock.
Thickness: 12.85 m in type section; 12.15 m in Bath-Frome area, 68 m in Purse Caundle Borehole and c. 100 m in South Dorset.
Geographical Limits: Bath area to English Channel; unit continues to Burford area, Oxon, but name used only where the Upper Fuller's Earth is also present.
