Lithological Description: Sandy and shelly siltstones and mudstones with marine fauna, fining upwards as marine conditions deepened to open marine from shallow neritic conditions. Minor indicators of cyclicity, probably due to changing water depths and energy conditions.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Abrupt lithology change from sandstone of the Mains Formation to mudstone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Unconformity and erosion to Bathonian-age sandstones and coals of the Fladen Group.
Thickness: Unrecorded.
Geographical Limits: Inner Moray Firth Basin.
