Definition of Lower Boundary: Probable non-sequence: at base of rhyolitic tuff, above calcareous silty mudstone of the Broughton Moor Formation or, where this is absent, the Kirkley Bank Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Probably conformable, at top of rhyolitic tuff and base of overlying silty mudstone or calcareous mudstone of the Ashgill Formation.
Thickness: c.25m
Geographical Limits: Low Furness, Ordovician inlier, south Cumbria. Correlatives occur elsewhere within the Windermere Supergroup outcrop of Northern England.
