Lithological Description: Pelite and semipelite, generally very fine-grained, dark grey to black, often with a prominant slaty cleavage, with rare lenses of fine-grained psammite.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Marked by the incoming of more homogenous pelitic slaty rocks within the host Macduff Formation grits, psammites and pelites.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Marked by the incoming of gritty, more heterogeneous rocks of the host Macduff Formation.
Thickness: Unknown, because of complications due to folding.
Geographical Limits: The member crops out in a c.1km wide linear belt from the northern margin of Boganclogh Basic Intrusion (NJ3045) to a point c.2km north east of Hull of Tillymorgan at c.(NJ675355).
