Lithological Description: Mudstone, red-brown, with subordinate siltstone and sandstone, greenish-grey sandstone more common in Nottinghamshire. Dolostone and gypsum/anhydrite locally common.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Sharp, upward passage from dolostone of Cadeby Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Upward passage into dolomitic limestone of Brotherton Formation.
Thickness: 0-65m
Geographical Limits: East Midlands and NE England. Dies out south of Nottingham. Passes eastwards into thick dolostones and evaporites.
Parent Unit: Zechstein Group (ZG)
