Lithological Description: Sand and gravel containing clasts of Carboniferous lithologies (sandstone, gritty sandstone, limestone, mudstone, gannister, coal), including far-travelled clasts from Scotland and the Lake District (greywacke sandstone and siltstone, granite and granodiorite).
Definition of Lower Boundary: Erosional unconformable contact with stiff, dark greyish brown, stony, sandy silty clay diamicton of the Wear Till Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Generally the land surface, or erosional unconformable contact with sand and gravel forming more recent river terraces.
Thickness: To 10m
Geographical Limits: Northern Pennines.
Parent Unit: North Pennine Glacigenic Subgroup (NPEG)
