Lithological Description: Semipelite and psammite, schistose to phyllitic with many thin beds of calc-silicate rock and metalimestone.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Lowest bed of thin limestone (where present) in upper part of Pitlurg Calcareous Flag Formation. Background lithology changes from banded calcareous psammite and semipelite to less obviously calcareous semipelite with some psammite.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Base of graphitic pelites with beds of limestone comprising the Mortlach Graphitic Schist Formation.
Thickness: up to 250m.
Geographical Limits: Keith area, Towie to Little Ardrone.
Parent Unit: Pitlurg Calcareous Flag Formation (PCFL)
