Lithological Description: Pelite, semipelite and psammite, well-bedded, usually garnetiferous, locally slightly graphitic and kyanite-bearing. Cross-bedding developed at lower boundary; includes quartzite beds in A9 section near Killiecrankie.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Change from fine-grained quartzite of Schiehallion Quartzite Formation to dark, layered semipelite and thin-bedded psammite containing 0.08m layers of fine-grained garnet-amphibolite.
Definition of Upper Boundary: First appearance of massive pebbly quartzite of Carn Mairg Quartzite Formation within 80m transition zone from impure quartzites and semipelites of Killiecrankie Schist Formation.
Thickness: 0 - 900m in Sheet 55W
Geographical Limits: From Carn Liath [NN 994 666], where it is cut off by the Killiecrankie Slide, southwards to Kinloch Rannoch [NN 659 576]. to the west of this, it is cut off by the Schiehallion Slide.
