Lithological Description: Phyllitic semipelites, grey-green, laminated to striped with minor limestone beds.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Limit of quartzites at top of Kymah Quartzite Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Base of pebbly quartzites of the Caochandye Quartzite Member.
Thickness: c. 300m (based on outcrop width with no allowance for probable folding).
Geographical Limits: 250 - 500m wide outcrop extending N-S from around Allt na Craoibhe - Caorainn [NJ 31 25] to Water of Nochty [NJ 305 162]. Also in synclinal core around Steplar Road [NJ 30 26], Moray District 1:50 000 Sheet 75E.
