Lithological Description: Coarse-grained (pebbles to 3cm), bioturbated sandstone. Numerous brachiopods and belemnites, many remaining only as moulds. [Thalassinoides] burrows extend into the mudstone below the Formation.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Abrupt disconformity, marine, transgressive sandstones on the mudstones of the Great Estaurine Group.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Unconformity to mudstones of the Staffin Shale Formation.
Thickness: 9m+.
Geographical Limits: Sea of the Hebrides Basin.
Parent Unit: Staffin Bay Formation (STBA)
