Lithological Description: Andesitic to dacitic volcanic block-breccias and lithic lapilli tuffs, massive to poorly stratified, divided into members in part. The unit is the lateral equivalent of the Beacon Hill Formation.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Not exposed, taken at base of the Benscliffe Breccia Member, consisting of grey, crystal-rich volcanic breccia. This member overlies grey-green fine- to medium-grained volcaniclastic rocks of the Blackbrook Reservoir Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Sharp or gradational over 1m with Bradgate Formation, latter consisting of dark to medium grey laminated volcaniclastic siltstones and sandstones with disturbed bedding.
Thickness: About 1300m
Geographical Limits: North-west Charnwood Forest, from Grace Dieu to Bardon Hill.
