Lithological Description: Turbidite mudstones interbedded within packets dominated by either laminated or burrowed hemipelagites. Scattered thin turbidite sandstones.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Gradational, but taken at the base of the incoming of abundant packets of turbidite mudstone interbedded with laminated hemipelagites above the Rhayader Pale Shales, a sequence dominated by interbedded turbidite mudstones and burrowed hemipelagites.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Either sharp junction taken at the base of the lowest thick argillaceous sandstone of the Rhuddnant Grits or gradational junction taken at the entrance of abundant thin turbidite sandstones of the Glanyrafon Formation.
Thickness: Up to 410 metres.
Geographical Limits: Central Wales.
