Definition of Lower Boundary: Irregular base on Upper Old Red Sandstone strata.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Faulted or irregular contact with Kirkbean Cementstone Member.
Thickness: 15-60 m.
Geographical Limits: Lavas are best developed between Dinely and Langholm. They thin westwards towards Birrenswark Hill; the westernmost extension is west of Dumfries at Kirkbean Glen, Southerness, Kirkcudbrightshire.
