Lithological Description: Quartzite and quartzose psammite, buff to grey, well-bedded with abundant micaceous interbeds. Locally recrystallised, hard and massive.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Base of quartzites (not seen, cut-out by fault system along valley of River Spey).
Definition of Upper Boundary: Top of quartzites, overlain by flaggy and schistose semipelites of the Findlater Flag Formation.
Thickness: c. 1250 m seen.
Geographical Limits: Between Rothes Fault and River Spey NE of Craigellachie and Old Red Sandstone unconformity at Cairnty, Mulben (Sheet 85E).
Parent Unit: Cullen Quartzite Formation (CUQU)
