Lithological Description: Green or purplish grey to bright purple-red, cross-bedded fine- to medium-grained sandstones with local intraformational conglomerates containing concretionary limestone clasts and rare mudstone beds.
Definition of Lower Boundary: The top of the Auchmithie Conglomerate Member
Definition of Upper Boundary: Not seen, although unconformably overlain by the Stratheden Group (Upper Devonian).
Thickness: Up to 365m thick.
Geographical Limits: The south east limb of the Sidlaw Anticline, in the Dundee-Montrose area, on sheets 49 and 57.
Parent Unit: Scone Sandstone Formation (SCN)
