Geological Mapping

The composition of Bedrock (solid) and of Superficial deposits (drift) is the major factor that determines the landscape, drainage and soil types in Northern Ireland. Geological survey provides information on the extent, thickness and properties of geological materials and as such underpins the work and mission of the GSNI.

The main products are geological maps which include the following:

  • 1:250,000 scale maps.
  • 1:50,000 scale maps (including six inch to one mile series).
