Virtual Tour header

This website allows you to make virtual tours of two contrasting areas of the Peak District. The Wirksworth area to the east and the Buxton area to the west (see map right). Whilst making a tour, you can 'visit' places of interest and find out more about them by clicking on a symbol. These symbols are coloured to represent different themes, red for Scenery and Geology, blue for Biodiversity and green for Industry and Settlement. Places with combined themes are coloured gold.

Three dimensions or two?

You can choose to tour by flying over 3D landscape models. These show a realistic representation of the hills and dales, towns and villages of the two areas and provide a unique interactive view of the Peak District. Click on the image top right to find out more about the 3D model.

If you are interested in relating your tour to a broader range of factual information on geology, geography, biodiversity and heritage, then you may prefer to use our 2 dimensional interactive maps.

These allow you to add and subtract 'layers' of information according to your interests. Click on the image right to find out more about the 2D model.
The map opposite shows the boundaries of the Peak District National Park. The map also highlights the two contrasting areas that form the basis of the virtual tour, Wirksworth and Buxton.
