Ringed plover: occurs inland at lowland sites, common by the coast Snipe: breeds in marshes and water meadows, winter population boosted by migration Pied wagtail: a resident bird commonly seen by the waters edge defending feeding territory Lapwing: much declined as a breeding bird, upland breeders gather on farmlands and wetlands in winter Dunlin: breeds on grassy moors and winters by the coast, often seen on migration Green sandpiper: occurs as a migrant on passage between northern Europe and the Mediterranean and north Africa
