Inspired by the Ordnance Survey, the British Geological Survey has reproduced the 2D geology of mainland Great Britain and surrounding islands within the world of Minecraft. This map shows the Ordnance Survey map data on the surface and the rough position of real geology beneath, repeated down to the bedrock.

BGS 3D model - Glasgow (geology and topography)
This model covers 100 km2 of terrain in the centre of Glasgow. The area shows the superficial deposits of the Central Glasgow area, including glaciated material from successive ice sheets.

BGS 3D model - Ingleborough (geology and topography)
The model was constructed as part of a 3D models for teaching project as an idealised and generalised view of a classic geological location. The model was built by BGS in 2010 using GSI3D and is calculated using a DEM with a 5 m grid spacing, it extends to about 100 m OD.

BGS 3D model - West Thurrock (geology and topography)
Built in GSI3D as a demonstration model by the BGS (Royse et al. 2009), the model is calculated from a digital elevation model (DEM) and is based on primary 1:10 000 survey and borehole evidence. It depicts an extensively modified and developed landscape with several extensive areas of artificial ground including the building of the Lakeside shopping complex within an old chalk quarry.

BGS 3D model - York (geology and topography)
The model was built by the BGS in 2005 as a result of a recent integrated 1:10 000 survey and model building programme for the Selby and York areas. It considers available borehole evidence, and extends to about 50 m depth. The model has been calculated using a digital elevation model (DEM). At high vertical exaggerations, despite processing, some residual effects, mainly due to local woodland, can still be seen in the top model surface.
