Digital Geological Map Data of Great Britain - 625k (DiGMapUK-625) superficial version 5

Dataset description

The DiGMapGB-625 V5 Superficial Map comprises digital geological map data at 1:625 000 scale showing the distribution of Quaternary-age deposits across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Quaternary deposits are generally unlithified materials (e.g. sand and gravel) that have been laid down and modified by wind, water and ice over the last c.2.6 million years. The map provides coverage for all of England, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. This version 5 dataset was created primarily by cartographic generalisation and simplification of the 1:50 000 scale geological map of Great Britain (DiGMAPGB-50 Superficial deposits, released in 2006). Each geological area (or map polygon) is attributed with information about its lithostratigraphical or lithogenetic origin (e.g. ?River-terrace deposit?) and its lithological composition (e.g. ?Clay and sand?). This data is published as part of the ongoing mapping and modelling of geological deposits across the United Kingdom by the British Geological Survey. This dataset is provided under Open Government Licence terms.
