Abstract This report describes the baseline groundwater chemistry of bedrock aquifers in southern Scotland, from the Scotland-England border to the Southern Upland Fault, with the exception of the highly productive Permian aquifers, which are treated separately. Four main aquifer groups are considered: sedimentary and metasedimentary rocks of both Ordovician and Silurian age; Devonian sedimentary rocks; and Carboniferous sedimentary rocks. There are also small outcrops of igneous rocks, mainly granite and lavas.
