Author statement Original geological survey on the one-inch scale by W.T. Aveline, H. Bauerman, E. Hull and W. Whittaker, published on Old Series Sheets 13 and 34 in 1857 and 1859. Cretaceous rocks surveyed on the six-inch scale prior to 1900 by A.J. Jukes-Browne and F.J. Bennett, and north-eastern corner in 1896-1905 by J.H. Blake and T.I. Pocock (published on Oxford District Sheet in 1908). Resurveyed and remainder completed in 1967-9 by E.G. Poole, B. Kelk, B.C. Coppack, R. J.O. Hamblin and A. Horton; J.R. Earp and G.A. Kellaway, District Geologists. Automatic Cartography by the Experimental Cartography Unit. Printed in England by Cook, Hammond and Kell Ltd., London.
