Author statement Original geological survey on the one-inch scale by E. Hull and W.T. Aveline, published on Old Series Sheet 34 in 1857, revised 1859. Cretaceous rocks surveyed on the six-inch scale prior to 1900 by F.J. Bennett. and southern strip in 1923 by H.G. Dines. Resurveyed and remainder completed on the six-inch scale by B. Kelk. E.G. Poole. P. Toghill in 1966-67 and (Upper Thames Gravel Area) by R.G. Thurrell, R.A. Bazley, E.C. Freshney, P.E. Harding and M. Williams in 1961- 62. F.B.A. Welch, S.C.A. Holmes and J.R. Earp, District Geologists. Worked out gravel areas revised by Mineral Assessment Unit in 1971.
