Author statement Original geological survey at 1:10 560 scale by J.R. Dakyns, C. Fox-Strangways and A.C.G. Cameron, published at the 1:63 360 scale in 1885. Provisional edition based on partial 1:10 560 scale remapping by W. Edwards, G.H. Mitchell and T.H. Whitehead in 1935-1938 and G.D. Gaunt in 1967-1968, published at the 1:50 000 scale in 1973. Second resurvey 2001-2004 at 1:10 000 scale by A.H. Cooper, J. Ford, H. Kessler, S. Price and M. Hall incorporating artificial ground mapping by S. Doran, A.E. Richardson and H. Burke, and utilising soil survey information supplied under licence from the National Soil Resources Institute, Cranfield University, compiled by R. Palmer. Interpretation of deep geology by T.C. Pharaoh based upon digital seismic data supplied by the UK Onshore Geophysical Library (UKOGL) and by the national archive of Coal Authority data, managed by BGS.
