| Author statement | Original map on the one-inch scale by Sir Henry T. De la Beche on Old Series Sheets 21 and 26. Published before 1845. Resurveyed mainly on the one-inch scale, with some work on the six-inch scale in the Bampton area by W.A.E. Ussher in 1871-97. Provisional edition published 1969, compiled by J.E. Wright, based partly on Ussher's resurvey and partly on geological surveys on the six-inch scale by J.M. Thomas in 1957-62 (University of London and University of Exeter) and E.E. Swarbrick in 1959-61 (University of Exeter). Reprinted at 1:50 000 scale without geological revision, 1974. This edition was partly remapped on the 1:10,000 scale by C.E. Burt, R.A. Ellison, L.M. Hollick, J.R. Lee, A.B. Leslie, A.J. Newell, R.C. Scrivenor and C.N. Waters between 2002 and 2007 including ,mapping from adjoining districts by J.E. Wright in 1967 and R.A. Edwards in 1990. Mapping of superficial deposits developed on the interfluves within the Holdsworthy Group outcrop from and interpretation of NEXTMap Britain data and local field checking by S.J. Booth and J. R. Lee in 2005. |
