By Taxi - The taxi rank inside the station is now closed. Taxi ranks can be found outside the station on Waverley Bridge and Market Street. The journey time to Murchison House (ask the driver for King's Buildings, West Mains Road, Gate 1) is about 15 minutes and costs around £8.
By Bus - Exit the station, either using the ramp to Waverley Bridge or the Waverley Steps to Princes Street. If using the ramp, turn left and walk up to Princes street. At Princes Street, either:
By Taxi - The taxi rank is located on the ground floor of the Multi-Storey car park opposite the main terminal. You can travel by private hire by pre-booking a vehicle. This can be done in advance or at the Private Hire Kiosk at the airport. Public hire (Black cabs) do not need to be pre-booked and can be picked up at the taxi rank. More info on Edinburgh Airport taxis. The journey to Kings Buildings takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic and will cost around £25.
By Bus – Airlink (No. 100) is a dedicated airport bus service. This leaves from the front of the airport every 10 minutes and takes about 25-30 minutes to the centre of town. The bus stops along the route, allowing exit on George Street or Waverley Bridge (terminus). You can connect directly to bus 67 from Waverley bridge or walk to the Mound (5 minutes) to catch a number 41 or 42 bus.
By Tram – Edinburgh Trams travel from the Airport to the city centre. Trams leave every 8-10 minutes and takes about 35 minutes to the centre of town. You need to buy a ticket before you board the tram. A combined DayTicket will allow unlimited use of trams and buses for a day. A return ticket is better value; the outway journey must be on the day of purchase but the return is open. More ticket information here. There are stops on Princes Street and on St. Andrews Square (for Waverley Station). Tip: Princes Street stop is closer to the Mound for connecting to buses (41 and 42) to Kings Buildings.
By Car - Exit the airport and follow signs to the city centre and city bypass. Follow the signs for the city bypass heading. Stay on the bypass and exit at Lothianburn Junction, turn left at the exit and follow the main road straight in towards the centre of town. At the bottom of a long descent, Comiston Road, turn right at a set of lights (beside The Hermitage public house) and proceed along Cluny Drive, through two sets of traffic lights and bear right up Blackford Avenue which becomes West Mains Road.
The easiest approach to King's Buildings is from the City bypass, which runs around the south of the city. To get to Kings Buildings, take either the Lothianburn (see from airport by car) or the Straiton exit which after the Lothianburn exit. From there follow the signs to the city centre, pass Mortonhall Crematorium and down a long descending hill (Liberton Brae). At a set of traffic lights at the bottom of the hill and just after the traffic lights, bear left into Mayfield road. Proceed to a set of traffic lights and turn left into west Mains Road, Murchison House is reached by taking the second entrance on the left into Kings Buildings. Follow the signs to Murchison House car park. The nearby university car park, like all other parking on campus, is by permit only and the university will issue a parking ticket if no permit is displayed. There is parking on West Mains Road and adjoining streets but beware of some single yellow line restrictions on West Mains Road.
From Cameron Toll, cross the road, turn left then turn right up Lygon Road. At the top of this road you will have reached Mayfield Road
From Mayfield Road, cross the road at the traffic lights and turn right into West Mains Road. Follow instructions as for bus route no. 42.
