Loanhead core store

The Loanhead Core Store currently houses part of the UKCS (non hydrocarbon) Offshore Borehole Collection. The Collection comprises a range of samples including:

• gravity and vibrocores (with a maximum penetration of six metres into the seabed)
• borehole cores, to a depth in excess of 200 metres
• grab samples

Samples are stored in boxes in approximate geographical order, or year order for boreholes.

The Collection totals around 60 000 boxes.

The material is currently being relocated to Keyworth; the transfer should be complete by the end of 2012–13.
