Keyworth Biostratigraphy Museum

The Biostratigraphy Museum contains approximately 250 000 selected fossil specimens, including much type, figured and cited material. Initial enquiries should be made to the Collections Manager or the Chief Curator.

The fossil specimens are housed in good quality wooden drawers with tight fitting glass lids. This ensure a stable environment and reduces the risk of pyrite oxidation or shale delamination. The cabinets are arranged stratigraphically; within a stratigraphic unit, fossils are arranged by taxonomic group.

A number of Wild microscopes, mostly with drawing tubes (camera lucida) are available for use in the Museum.

Fossils in display cabinets on the walls

Good examples of marine reptiles and other fossils are mounted in display cabinets on the walls.

A copying stand with lights is available for photography; together with various tripods. Ammonium chloride coating may be carried out in the conservation laboratory.

The microfossil collection includes palynological slides, calc-micro mounted slides, and thin sections with forams, as well as SEM stubs.
