BGS Rock Classification Scheme

Melilitic rock - A type of exotic crystalline igneous rock. In the Rock Classification Scheme, it is defined as a rock that contains more than 10% modal melilite. Although light-coloured, melilite is classified as a mafic mineral belonging to group M. Melilitic rocks are divided into ultramafic-melilitic-rock, and non-ultramafic-melilitic-rock.
