To consider the appropriateness of the duration of funding for all areas of activity in BGS and the frequency with which funds should be sought from NERC.

  1. In its science activity the panel recognised that BGS is generally a very competitive organisation. The Panel view was that effort towards collaboration and partnership should be encouraged (see ToR 3).
    • BGS management commentary
      The BGS agrees with the panel's view that, as a whole, it is a competitive organisation. This assessment suggests that it would not be cost effective to subdivide and put segments of its programme out to competition. When and where appropriate, all parts of the BGS science programme engage fully in collaboration and partnerships, with HEIs and the public and private sectors. The BGS's international success involves a wide range of BGS programmes, and is indicative of a financially and scientifically competitive organisation.
