Dr Martin Smith, Head of Science, Geology and Landscape. BSc, (Aberdeen 1981), PhD (Aberystwyth 1988), CGeol, Fellow of Geological Society of London. Field geologist with extensive experience in sedimentary, volcanic, metamorphic and tectonic terranes in both the UK (Scotland, Wales) and overseas (Kenya, Egypt, Morocco). Now as Chief Geologist responsible for delivery of the geological survey and provision of geoscientific advice and data to underpin policy, planning and the economy. Research interests in African rift evolution, Precambrian evolution of the Scottish Caledonides including shear zones and monazite dating techniques.
