Helen Reeves: science director, engineering geology.
Helen leads research into engineering geology, which includes studies on the properties and behaviour of rocks and how they impact on transport and building infrastructure. Ongoing studies and monitoring help improve our understanding of 'shallow geohazards' such as landslides, flooding and subsidence, and how best to reduce their risks to society. Helen also works with the UK Natural Hazards Partnership, which includes advising the Cabinet Office Civil Contingencies Secretariat on geohazards to inform the National Risk Assessment. Research focus also includes 'urban geoscience', which aims to improve our understanding of the complex processes that occur under our cities and towns.
