John Rees

John has responsibility for the BGS science teams in Earth and planetary observation and monitoring, earthquake seismology, geomagnetism, space geodesy and volcanology. He works with the Met Office and other agencies on the UK Natural Hazards Partnership, which includes advising the Cabinet Office Civil Contingencies Secretariat on geohazards to inform the National Risk Assessment. In his BGS career, John has worked widely on environmental hazards, including as leader of the NERC Natural Hazard Theme, as well as the analysis and communication of societal risks.
