Lithological Description: Redbed sequence; mudstone dominated in lower part but becoming increasingly arenaceous towards top. Thin Spirorbis limestone beds at some levels. Impersistent conglomerates in upper part.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Taken immediately above the sandstone unit named informally as the Arley and Exhall sandstones at the top of the Whitacre Member.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Taken at the highest mappable sandstone (Corley Sandstone) beneath the basal argillaceous sequence of the overlying Allesley Member.
Thickness: Range 197m-306m. Mean 258m
Geographical Limits: Warwickshire Coalfield (northern part) sheet 169. Also likely to extend in the subcrop across the southern part of the Warwickshire Coalfield. (sheet 184).

Reference Section  Cliff section; roadside exposure 200m northeast of Corley village exposes sandstones in the upper part of the Member (Corley Sandstone). 
Type Area  Warwickshire Coalfield; centred on the village of Corley (SP 30 85), extending from the coalfield Western Boundary Fault into northwest Coventry (poorly exposed throughout). 
Reference Section  Staircase Lane Borehole SP38SW/97 uncored but with good geophysical signature. Base 363m below surface; top 78m below surface.
